“Think Before You Drive” Campaign Success
“Think Before You Drive” is a global road safety initiative of the FIA
Foundation and Bridgestone Corporation, working together with national FIA
automobile clubs. The aim of the campaign is to save lives and reduce the
severity of crashes by reminding motorists of the simple steps they can take
to enhance in-car safety.
Organised under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Cyprus Tassos
Papadopoulos, the Cyprus Think Before You Drive campaign was based around the
same clear messages as in the rest of the world:
- Always use your seat belt
- Always use a child seat
- Correctly adjust your head restraint
- Check your tyres
The high-profile 2-month campaign drew to a close recently, with a major event
at Lefkosia’s Eleftheria Square. The event was attended by a number of local
dignitaries, including Minister of Commerce Industry & Tourism Antonis
Michaelides, as well as Stephan Sarrazin of France - a Subaru World Rally Team
driver who came to Cyprus especially for the event – and a host of Cypriot
rallying celebrities. Visitors received autographs and small gifts while
extensive media coverage was ensured via a live link with Radio Energy.
While the 2-month Cyprus campaign has ended, the organisers call upon all road
users to keep the message alive and do everything they can to make the roads a
safer place for everyone.
The Cyprus Think Before You Drive campaign was organised by the Cyprus
Automobile Association (CAA) with the cooperation of the Ministry of Justice,
the Ministry of Communications & Works, the Cyprus Police and Lefkaritis Bros
Ltd (the Bridgestone tyres agent in Cyprus) which sponsors the campaign.
A number of public awareness events were organised over the past two months,
including child-seat and safety belt demonstrations, tyre checks and a head
restraint advice campaign.
